I love how much energy the city has and how densely packed it is with creativity and inspiration. There’s always so much going on it would be impossible to do it all, but I really like that amount of opportunity, even if it is overwhelming at times. I feel like I have a better idea of what it would be like to be an independent artist working in New York after having participated in the program, and I am interested in coming back to New York after I graduate.
The New York Studio Residency Program (NYSRP), a project of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), is a sixteen-credit program for undergraduate and graduate art and design students in New York City. It follows a model of art education that blends learning with location and structure with flexibility. Built on diversity, self-motivation and discourse, the program is ideal for students eager to work independently among other art and design students from around North America in New York, the intense and vibrant world community of artists.
